The 94th Force Support Squadron (Services) invites DoD cardholders from all branches of service to celebrate the holiday season with us for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Giveaway. Our Christmas Tree Lighting is an annual event. However, this year we are fortunate to partner with the Christmas Spirit Foundation/ for their Trees for Troops program. The Trees for Troops program delivers the spirit of Christmas to military families by providing complimentary Christmas trees. In addition, we will have barbecue, axe throwing, and mobile gaming.
The tree lighting portion of the event will include cookies, cocoa, live music, and other entertainment. Last year’s event was kicked off with words from the Wing Commander, Col Michael B. Parks. He also did the honors of lighting the tree. The lighting was followed by a bonfire, with marshmallow roasting. The kids were provided with games from the Community Action Network.
This year we hope to top the festivities from last year, by providing food from Pappy 2’s Barbecue and axe throwing & mobile game truck from American Axes. The Associated Credit Union of Dobbins Air Reserve Base will provide Christmas cheer along with cookies and cocoa.
The Christmas Spirit Foundation, in association with FedEx, will donate and deliver around 15,300 trees to military families in 2024. This act of service will be carried out at 78 total locations but provide trees for 93 total bases which requested a total of about 19,745 trees. Dobbins Air Reserve Base will be provided with approximately 185 live trees on a first come, first served basis. However, Col Parks would like to ensure that Service Members E-5 and below receive trees for their families first. So, we ask that everyone observe the following pickup times.
Please, bring your family and enjoy the festive atmosphere as we light up the tree and share the spirit of giving by supporting our troops. Join us in the parking lot of Building 833, which is located across the street from Verhulst Hall.
